I've always used MCPatcher, and found it to not only be great for easily enabling HD Texture packs, but it's also really easy to use for adding in your favorite mods to the client. MCPatcher and OptiFine don't exactly play well together, without a lot of extra work. I can't think of any "cons" to using just MCPatcher, and as I have no need to use OptiFine, I can't give you any pros, or cons, of using it.

Sorry, I'm just getting confused a bit. Nothing to apologize for. Modloader does exactly what it sounds like it should do, it allows you to load mods in your client. There is a bit of a divide in the community, over which mod loading system is "better".
But, you might find yourself seeing mods that look really cool, and will require Forge User Info: moonrazk. Then download mods and put them in the mods folder. And some to the coremods folder. That's it. TC, OptiFine not only [usually] gives you a FPS boost, it also have a lot of options, mainly graphic-wise, like anti-aliasing, mipmap, etc. Minecraft 1. This is a great opportunity to help add some more consistency and convenience to OptiFine.
For this update, I'd like to suggest merging the mcpatcher folder with the optifine folder in resource packs. The idea is to simply bring all of OptiFine's resource pack features into a single folder. No more going back and forth between two completely separate file directories, with one being the remains of the now 3 years outdated MCPatcher.
Is it a good idea? Maybe, maybe not. Tell me what you guys think, especially you resource pack creators. What are your arguments for or against this?
